Â
My first year of recovery was the best & hardest year of my life.
It was the year I came home to myself…
I won’t go into all the reasons why or how I became dependent on alcohol — mentally, emotionally, and physically. But I will say this: I was waking up through the night to top up so I wouldn’t go into withdrawal.
I struggled to leave the house because of severe anxiety (caused by drinking) and chose alcohol over absolutely everything in my life — including my kids. Over the years, without support for PTSD, alcohol became my therapist, my best friend, and my support system.
At first, it felt like it was making everything better — until it slowly started destroying my life bit by bit and nearly ended up killing me.
But I couldn’t imagine a life without alcohol. I had never felt so alone, trapped in a maze of self-destructive behaviour with no idea where the exit was.
In May 2021, after a drinking and driving conviction, multiple visits to treatment centres, and countless doctor appointments, I was told I had ascites, alcohol-related cirrhosis, and neuropathy. Even that wasn’t enough to make me stop.
I was in complete denial — my doctor repeatedly told me, “You’re going to die.” But all I could think about was my next drink.
Then on August 18th, 2021, I had a moment of clarity that changed everything.
I realised I wasn’t invincible. If I kept drinking, I was going to die.
In that moment, I made a promise to myself — to never touch alcohol again and to do whatever it took to get better, to live a full life, and to be there for my kids as they grow up.
I’ve kept that promise. And I haven’t looked back since.
I was a shell of a person physically, mentally & emotionally.
I went from feeling completely lost — no idea who I was — filled with guilt and shame, to rediscovering my true self, finding my voice, and beginning a journey of profound personal growth and healing.
From nearly dying with diagnoses of cirrhosis and ascites, weighing just 42kg and barely able to walk, to rebuilding myself physically and running my first half marathon within my first year of recovery — the transformation was powerful.
I completed a 3-month treatment program and went on to study addiction therapy and nutrition, gaining deeper insight into my healing journey both mentally and physically. With each step, I laid a solid foundation for sustainable recovery.
Setting small, achievable goals and celebrating milestones along the way kept me grounded and motivated. And with each passing day, I grew stronger — making my recovery even more remarkable.
I’m often asked how I did it, and my answer is simple: Consistency. Personal growth. Willingness to change.
It took:
- Stepping out of my comfort zone
- Being honest with myself
- Embracing self-forgiveness and self-acceptance
- And putting recovery above everything else
Most importantly, I learned that sustainable recovery isn’t quick or easy. But when you put in the work and get honest with yourself — that’s when the magic happens.
And I can say this, wholeheartedly and firsthand — WE DO RECOVER.

My Message of Hope to You
Believing in yourself is the first step toward true transformation and growth.
You are not defined by your past struggles or mistakes —
you hold the power to shape your future and create a life rooted in purpose and fulfilment.
Change is possible.
It begins with a firm belief in your ability to overcome challenges and embrace personal growth.
Through self-belief, determination, and commitment, you can rewrite your story, step into the best version of yourself, and live a life aligned with your true desires.
Remember:Â It is never too late to begin again.
Take the next step toward change — and watch as your journey unfolds with limitless possibilities.

MY why
In the early days of my recovery journey, I felt lost, alone, and uncertain about the road ahead. Completing the treatment program left me craving personalised support for my physical, mental, and emotional well-being — support that was missing. I sought guidance that combined nutrition, wellness practices, and personal growth, leading me on a journey of self-discovery that transformed every part of my life.
As I engaged in courses and built a personalised wellness plan, I set bold goals — like running a half marathon and skydiving from 15,000 feet — all within my first year of recovery.
After reaching those milestones and building a solid foundation, I began to witness the struggles of others around me. It became clear how vital tailored support from someone who truly understands the recovery journey is.Â
While volunteering in drug and alcohol services and exploring routes like AA, I often encountered a lack of person-centred, holistic support. This inspired me to pursue certifications as a Recovery Coach Professional (RCP©), Wellness Coach, and to continue my personal development as a Nutrition Recovery Coach through the Academy of Addiction & Mental Health.
I created UNAPOLOGETIC RECOVERY — a coaching practice and membership community dedicated to offering a clear, compassionate path with the tools needed for lasting, sustainable recovery.
All you need to do is show up and put in the work — and I’ll walk alongside you every step of the way.
 MY MISSION IS TO
Support women in early recovery so they never have to face the same isolation, overwhelm, and confusion I once did.
I believe that every woman deserves compassionate guidance, a non-judgemental space, and someone who wholeheartedly believes in your ability to heal, grow, and thrive — unapologetically.
